VILLAGE CONNECTOR: COMMUNITY BUS SERVICE

Peopleton Parish Council are trying to raise sufficient funds to keep a rural bus service operating taking passengers from Peopleton, Drakes Broughton and surrounding villages to Worcester and Pershore. For many older members of their communities, a bus service is a real life-line. Many of them do not have access to a car or can no longer drive. With the bus services, not only can they now get to the shops, they also get to see old friends and meet new ones. This is particularly important at the present time as many have not been able to get out much in the last 15 months or so.

Both public bus services were withdrawn recently, the Peopleton to Worcester bus in April last year. Peopleton and Drakes Broughton Parish Councils have been working with Pershore Volunteer Centre, Worcester Wheels, Worcestershire County Council Community Transport Development Officer and the Vale Public Transport Group to re-establish the routes in the hope that Worcestershire County Council will recognise the demand for the services and be prepared to re-instate the routes.

Peopleton Parish Council have a project on Space Hive and are asking backers to pledge money to the project and they have secured matched funding from Worcestershire CC and Wychavon District Council. Full details, including costings, can be seen at https://www.spacehive.com/village-connector-bus.

Peopleton Parish Council would very much appreciate it if you were able to pledge your support to help this valuable local community project.

Our latest COVID News

Opening Times

Our office is now open to the public, we are currently having to limit numbers in the office so please call 01386 554299 for an appointment.

Prescriptions

As the Government withdraws its funding for prescription delivery services, many medical practices and pharmacies around the country are withdrawing this free service.  Pershore Volunteer Centre, which had never received any Government funding and relies solely on volunteers helpers and public donations, will continue to provide its delivery service in Pershore for the time being.  So long as we have willing volunteers and there is a demand we will deliver prescriptions to those who continue to self isolate.

Please continue to contact the Volunteer Centre on 01386 554299

Transport to Appointments

As the area slowly comes out of lockdown, we have seen a steady increase in the number of routine hospital, dental and medical centre appointments.  This has resulted in an increase in the number of requests we have received from people who have no access to transport and need help getting to their appointment.  This is a service which Pershore Volunteer Centre has continued to provide throughout the whole of the lockdown.  We are now ratcheting up our provision, so if you need transport to your medical appointment or could help us provide transport for others, anywhere in Pershore or the surrounding villages, please contact Donna King 01386 554299

Pershore Town Council and the Community caring for you

These are difficult times but if we all help each other we can get through it. The current Covid 19 virus mainly affects older members of our community and it is these residents that may need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions or transport to essential medical appointments – if you are known to anyone in need please consider offering them your help. If you feel you may be able to assist in some other way please phone the Town Council on 01386 561561 or Pershore Volunteer Centre on 01386 554299.

Anyone needing help who has not received contact from a neighbour or friend can also contact either the Town Council or Volunteer Centre on the above numbers. They will, with your permission, pass your details to someone whose integrity has been fully checked and who may be able to help you. YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

NB Please be aware that whilst there is no danger to you receiving help from people you know, there are fraudsters out there who will take advantage of the situation. If you are in any doubt or if feel you are being exploited or threatened in any way please contact the police.
