Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre is excited to announce the soft launch of its new volunteer-led befriending service designed to combat loneliness and improve mental well-being. The initiative offers both face-to-face and telephone befriending, providing a vital source of connection for individuals in need of companionship, emotional support, and community.
The Befriending project will initially begin its soft launch phase, providing a limited number of placements as we ensure the program’s success and fine-tune operations. The service will be available to individuals that may feel lonely or isolated community members, people with mental health challenges, etc, offering regular check-ins through friendly, volunteer-led conversations.
“We understand that the challenges of isolation and loneliness can be overwhelming, especially in times like these,” said Karon Swinburn, CEO] “Our volunteer team is here to listen, support, and provide a sense of companionship to those who may be struggling. We believe in the power of human connection, and we’re eager to begin helping people reconnect to the support they deserve.”
The project, which is powered by a dedicated group of volunteers, matches individuals with trained and compassionate befrienders who will offer both emotional support and practical assistance where needed. Befrienders will engage in meaningful conversations, whether in person or over the phone, with a focus on providing comfort, companionship, and a friendly ear.
The soft launch will allow the team to gather feedback from participants, volunteers, and partners to refine the program, ensuring it meets the highest standards of care and service. As part of the launch, the program is also looking for new volunteers who are passionate about making a positive impact in their community.
