Pavers Foundation keeps Pershore Volunteer Vehicles in Action!

Karon Swinburn, CEO, Pershore Plus, Holly Sagar, Communications Coordinator, Pavers and Phil Sagar, Volunteer Driver for Pershore Plus.

The Pavers Foundation, charitable initiative of multi-channel family-owned footwear retailer, Pavers, has recently donated £2,660 to Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre on behalf of Holly Sagar, Communications Coordinator at Pavers Head Office. The donation was made through the Foundation’s employee-led grant application scheme, which encourages colleagues of the business to apply on behalf of charities and good causes close to their hearts.

Holly’s dad Phil is a volunteer driver for Pershore Plus, prompting her to apply for the grant funding through the Pavers Foundation. The donation will be used to fund essential maintenance checks on three of the charity’s accessible vehicles for one year, allowing the charity to continue running their community transport service, a lifeline for many elderly and vulnerable people in the local community who live remotely and have no means of accessible travel to appointments and social clubs. The service primarily connects Pershore with Redditch, Worcester and Evesham, where Holly met with Karon Swinburn at the Pavers Store in The Valley to present the donation.

Holly thanked the Foundation for the grant; “Thank you so much to the Foundation for supporting this essential community service for Pershore and the surrounding area, it is humbling to work for a business with such a strong social conscience, which supports good causes in this way.”

Karon Swinburn, CEO of Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre explained a little more about the difference this donation will make for the charity; “Our Community Transport Service is, in many cases a lifeline for people in our quest to reduce social isolation and loneliness in Pershore and the surrounding villages. Just to be able to get out to do shopping, meet friends for a coffee, or join a leisure activity goes a long way to supporting and maintaining people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Pershore Plus also offers trips to local places of interest and attractions, The Valley, Evesham is always a popular trip! We are hugely grateful to the Pavers Foundation for funding the maintenance checks needed on our three vehicles for the next year. This comes at a time when the cost-of-living crisis is impacting on small charities like ours and meaning that we are always looking for more funding opportunities.”

The Pavers Foundation is delighted to continually make a difference to local communities, those from disadvantaged backgrounds and a whole host of good causes throughout the UK and beyond through their charitable donations, charity of the year initiative and donations made on behalf of the Paver family. VILLAGE CONNECTOR: COMMUNITY BUS SERVICE

Peopleton Parish Council are trying to raise sufficient funds to keep a rural bus service operating taking passengers from Peopleton, Drakes Broughton and surrounding villages to Worcester and Pershore. For many older members of their communities, a bus service is a real life-line. Many of them do not have access to a car or can no longer drive. With the bus services, not only can they now get to the shops, they also get to see old friends and meet new ones. This is particularly important at the present time as many have not been able to get out much in the last 15 months or so.

Both public bus services were withdrawn recently, the Peopleton to Worcester bus in April last year. Peopleton and Drakes Broughton Parish Councils have been working with Pershore Volunteer Centre, Worcester Wheels, Worcestershire County Council Community Transport Development Officer and the Vale Public Transport Group to re-establish the routes in the hope that Worcestershire County Council will recognise the demand for the services and be prepared to re-instate the routes.

Peopleton Parish Council have a project on Space Hive and are asking backers to pledge money to the project and they have secured matched funding from Worcestershire CC and Wychavon District Council. Full details, including costings, can be seen at https://www.spacehive.com/village-connector-bus.

Peopleton Parish Council would very much appreciate it if you were able to pledge your support to help this valuable local community project.
